Successful websites are built on strong foundations. Before thinking about visual design, I focus on understanding the business, the audience and the content. The most effective digital experiences emerge when strategy, structure, design and implementation are considered together rather than as separate stages.
My work sits between design and development, helping organisations turn complex requirements into clear, scalable digital experiences.
Research
Every project starts by understanding the people using it and the goals it needs to support.
This might involve search research, content audits, stakeholder conversations, analytics reviews or competitor analysis. The aim is to understand how people think, what they are looking for and where opportunities exist.
Structure
Once the goals are clear, I focus on information architecture.
Navigation, content models, taxonomies and page structures all influence how people experience a website. Good structure supports usability, accessibility, content management and search visibility.
A website should make sense before any styling is applied.
Design
Design should create clarity.Typography, layout, hierarchy and interaction design all help people understand information and make decisions. I favour systems and reusable patterns that can grow with a project over time.
Prototype
I use prototypes to explore ideas, communicate concepts and test assumptions.
Whether created in Figma, React or through AI-assisted workflows, prototypes allow conversations to focus on behaviour and user experience rather than static screens.
Build
As both a designer and developer, I think about implementation from the beginning.
I work closely with developers and stakeholders to ensure design decisions translate into maintainable, accessible and scalable digital products.
Evolve
A successful launch is the beginning of a website’s life rather than the end.
The most successful projects are those that continue to evolve, responding to user behaviour, business needs and new opportunities over time.
