Brief

  • Create a fully manageable artist portfolio site
  • Allow artworks to be fully archived with custom categories, tags and attributes
  • Prioritise the display of images over all other design elements
  • Train the client to manage the CMS going forward

Overview

This project involved designing a professional portfolio website for artist Emma Mills. Her old site was self-made and didn’t show her work in the best way. She needed an experienced web designer to create a high-quality platform that would truly showcase her artwork.

Custom-Built Theme

I built the site using a bespoke WordPress theme I had developed specifically for contemporary artists. This served as a solid foundation while making it easy to make adjustments to match Emma’s style and needs.

Artwork Labelling

To streamline Emma’s workflow, I implemented an intuitive system for uploading artworks, complete with fields for dimensions and other important metadata. I also introduced custom taxonomies to organise her work into well-structured archive galleries, sorted by medium, year, and artistic series.

The Result

The finished website is clean, easy to use, and allows Emma’s artwork stand out. It gives her a professional online presence and makes it simple for visitors to explore her work.
